Three highway workers killed, one hurt after car rams into them on NKVE

SHAH ALAM: Three male Indian contract workers were killed while a Bangladeshi worker was hurt after a car ploughed into them on the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE).

Shah ALAM OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident occurred at about 3.30am on Saturday (July 13) as the victims were doing maintenance work at KM3.1 of the expressway.

"Initial investigation revealed that an individual, who was driving on the right lane from the direction of Damansara, had lost control of his car before hitting a water barrier and divider as well as the victims.

"Three Indian nationals were killed at the scene while the Bangladeshi worker suffered injuries and he was sent to Shah Alam Hospital for treatment," he said in a statement today.

The driver, a man in his 20s, has been detained for further investigation, he said.

"He also had undergone blood and urine tests to check for alcohol content.

"We are investigating under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

ACP Mohd Iqbal urged those with information to contact Traffic investigating officer Asst Supt Raja Mahadi Raja Mahmudin at 012-3097660.
