Highway workers mowed down by a car


SHAH ALAM: Three foreign workers were killed and a fourth one injured after they were hit by a car while carrying out maintenance work on the New Klang Valley Expressway.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident occurred at KM3.1 of the highway at 3.30am yesterday.

“The driver, who was coming from Damansara, lost control of his car before hitting a water barrier, the divider and the victims.“Three Indian nationals were killed at the scene while a Bangladeshi worker was sent to Hospital Shah Alam for treatment,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The driver, in his 20s, was arrested, he said, adding the man had undergone blood and urine tests for alcohol content.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
