Bersatu to take legal action against those who declared support for Anwar

KUALA SELANGOR: Bersatu will take legal action against the six Members of Parliament and State Assembly members who have declared their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Selangor Bersatu Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said that Bersatu will not concede despite the rulings by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul and Selangor Speaker Lau Weng San

"I believe the courts will make the best decision based on the Constitution and the law," he said while speaking at the People's Assembly Opposing the Decision of the Parliament Speaker at a hotel here on Sunday (July 14) night.

Mohamed Azmin said that the judicial review is intended to ensure that the seats are vacated, thus returning the mandate to the people for by-elections to be held.

"To Tanjong Karang MP Dr Zulkafperi Hanafi, please vacate this seat before the court makes a decision. You won because of the people and the machinery that worked and assisted you but you betrayed the party," said Mohamed Azmin.

The Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman said that both the Federal and Selangor state governments are currently facing severe constitutional crises.

"Our duty is to defend the Constitution and uphold the law of the land and the state. What the government is doing is against the Constitution and the law," said Mohamed Azmin.

Previously, six former Bersatu MPs who declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remained as representatives.

Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed this was communicated by Johari in a letter dated July 10.

The following day, Lau announced that there was no unexpected vacancy for the Selat Klang State Assembly seat held by Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari.

He stated that the termination of the State Assembly Member for Selat Klang's membership in Bersatu was found to be a deliberate dismissal under the operations of Article LXVA 2(c) of the Selangor State Constitution.
