A NEWLY-elected MP in Britain has attracted attention by getting sworn in on the Bhagavad Gita, the Hindu holy book.
Malaysia Nanban reported that Shivani Raja, a British citizen whose parents are from Gujarat, India, stood as a Conservative Party candidate.
The 29-year-old businesswoman won the East Leicester constituency by beating Rajesh Agarwal in the seat that had been held by the Labour Party for 37 years.
MPs are allowed to choose their own text to take their oath of office and Shivani chose the Gita.
