KOTA TINGGI: A total of RM2.5mil has been earmarked by the Defence Ministry to upgrade facilities at Kampung Baru Pasak, with projects set to commence this month.

Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Isham Ishak (pic) highlighted 10 key projects including installing 30 solar lights along village roads, road upgrades, building a sports court and two community centres, as well as relocating and building a new surau.

"Our Armed Forces will also be involved in building a mushroom cultivation centre, which we expect will be able to help generate income for the villagers," he said, adding that these projects are expected to be fully completed by October this year.

Isham said this when met by reporters after conducting a site visit to Kampung Baru Pasak, here on Monday (July 15).

The surau's development is expected to span 18 months with all projects managed by local contractors under close supervision of the Implementation and Coordination Unit, said Isham.

This marks the Defence Ministry's first adopted village under the Kampung Angkat Madani programme, with a second in Kampung Peraku, Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan.

The programme is an initiative by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to provide basic facilities and improve infrastructure in rural areas.

Additionally, Isham said the ministry has helped repair the wiring and rooftops of five houses in Kampung Baru Pasak, with each house receiving between RM16,000 and RM17,000 in repair allocations.
