Khalid Samad calls Federal Government to study problems faced by River of Life

THE FEDERAL Government should study the problems faced by The River of Life (RoL) project and come out with a solution for the delay in project implementation, said Former Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.

"We had spent close to RM4bil for the project and it should not be stopped.

"Find a think tank to study the problem with RoL and find out the best possible solution," he said.

Khalid also responded to Datuk Seri Najib Razak, where the former premier said in a Facebook post that the project was 80% complete from 2012 to 2018 but had progressed only one percent from 2018 to 2024.

"After the Pakatan Harapan government fell, the RoL project was not touched by the Perikatan Nasional government.

"I learnt that the cost for the maintenance, which I had approved during my tenure as Federal Territories Minister, was not paid to the contractor.

"How do you expect the contractor to carry out maintenance?" he said.

On July 4, The Star reported that The River of Life (RoL) project will not meet its deadline this year, according to findings in the 2/2024 Auditor-General’s Report.

The report also noted that RM3.915bil has been spent on the RM4.363bil RoL project.

According to the report, up till July this year, 135 out of 159 projects had been completed, eight projects are still being implemented, and 12 projects are at the pre-implementation stage.
