MACC nabs civil servant for making fake land acquisition claims

KOTA KINABALU: Graft investigators have arrested a state civil servant for submitting a false claim to help his family members get about RM111,000 for land compensation payment for a road project in 2014.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the suspect in his 50s was arrested when he turned up at the Sabah MACC office at around 11am on Monday (July 15).

The male suspect is believed to have committed the offence by allegedly submitting a suspected false claim to help his family members obtain compensation for the land at a department here, the source said.

However, it was learned that the compensation claims had no grounds because the road project did not involve the land in question.

When contacted, Sabah MACC director Datuk S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said that the case is being investigated for false claims under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

He said they expect to charge the suspect at the Kota Kinabalu Special Corruption Court on Tuesday (July 16).
