KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi congratulated the Selangor Red Giants (SRG) on their victory at the Mid Season Cup of Mobile Legend Bang Bang (MLBB) 2024 tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Sunday (July 14).
He described SRG's achievement - which earned them RM4.7mil in prize money and ended Malaysia's seven-year drought without an international e-sports title - as a proud moment that brings glory to the country.
"The dedication and commitment shown at this tournament will certainly be a catalyst for the development of the country's e-sports industry, further producing more professional athletes who are competitive and skilled in digital games that I see are gaining a place in the hearts of younger generation,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Ahmad Zahid also expressed his full commitment as the chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Sports Development, to develop the digital sports industry.
In the final match, SRG overcame the Philippine Falcons AP Bren Sport with a 4-3 victory, rebounding after a challenging start with a 23-16 defeat in the first game.
SRG's jungler Muhammad Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul, also known as Sekyss, was named the most valuable player of MSC MLBB 2024. - Bernama
