Father missing, son safe in crocodile attack in Kinabatangan

KOTA KINABALU: A man has gone missing while his 10-year-old son escaped after being attacked by a crocodile in Sabah’s Kinabatangan district on Tuesday (July 16).

The 35-year-old man was netting fish with the boy when the incident occurred at Kampung Sobak Perpaduan.

Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue station chief Nurul Azlan Jamaluddin said they were alerted of the incident at 11.07pm.

He said a five-man team was then rushed to the area, reaching the location at 11.45pm.

After gathering information, he said, they learned that the pair had gone to the river there to look for fish.

“However, the victim went missing after the crocodile attack but his son was safe,” he said, when contacted on Wednesday (July 17).

Nurul Azlan said they had to postpone the search and rescue efforts at 12.14am due to rain.

“We resumed the operation at 10.30am on Wednesday, conducting a search along the riverside. We have yet to find the victim but will update the situation from time to time,” he said.
