PETALING JAYA: A 32-year-old male teacher was detained for allegedly assaulting a six-year-old autistic boy.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said the victim's father lodged a police report at about 12.39pm on Wednesday (July 17), claiming that his son was assaulted by a teacher at a child care centre in Kelana Jaya.

"Initial investigation revealed that the suspect had allegedly kicked, hit and pulled the victim, causing him to fall from his chair.

"There was also a bite mark on his hand," he said in a statement on Thursday (July 18).

The teacher was subsequently detained at his home in Ampang at about 1.13pm on Thursday, he said.

"We are investigating the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, “ he said.

ACP Shahrulnizam urged those with information to contact the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters operations room at 03-79662222 or any nearest police station.
