MPs told to get health checked, or be named

KUALA LUMPUR: Lawmakers are reminded to go for health screenings as soon as possible, as failure to do so by Nov 11 will result in their names being published on the Parliament website, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

Johari said MPs can access information regarding the mandatory health checkup from the letter that has been sent to each of them.

“The medical screening is compulsory for all MPs and the last date for the check up is on Monday, Nov 11.

“If you do not go for the check up, your names will be uploaded on the Parliament website,” said Johari at the start of yesterday’s Dewan Rakyat meeting.

He advised MPs to get further information from the Dewan Rakyat health adviser Dr Murugesu Raju.“The check-up helps in assessing the health status of MPs at an early stage. It also allows for immediate preventative steps to be taken,” he said.

The Speaker said that he had witnessed 11 MPs who collapsed in the House last year, reiterating the importance for lawmakers to do health checks.
