DESPITE having been censored, Malaysian director Chong Keat Aun was grateful that his film Snow In Midsummer will see the big screens back home, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Earlier, Chong had expressed concerns that the film will never reach cinemas in Malaysia as it was a story on the aftermath of the May 13 racial riots – a topic which remains sensitive despite having happened nearly six decades ago.
“Some people may accuse me of compromising the integrity of my film by allowing it to be censored.
“However, I hope the fact that it was allowed to be screened can be seen as a form of progress in the country,” he said.
According to reports, Snow In Midsummer passed the scrutiny of censors after four rounds of review by the Film Censorship Board.
Some scenes had to be cut while a few lines of dialogue had to be muted.
Chong added that he hoped for the film to be successfully screened without any incident.
Snow In Midsummer began screening in cinemas on July 18.
> Taiwanese artist Rainie Yang, despite singing out of tune during her last appearance, revealed that she is set to appear on the reality TV series Singer 2024 once more, reported China Press.
Just two months ago, the 39-year-old singer was criticised for her lacklustre performance during a live broadcast of the show as she forgot some of the lyrics and fumbled her high notes during a rendition of Take Me Away.It caused her to rank in the bottom two performers for that episode.
“I was defeated by nervousness. There is no opportunity to try again. I can only do my best in every single concert in the future to make up for all of your disappointment,” she wrote on Instagram.
She was eliminated in the following episode despite having improved when performing the song Twilight which was originally sung by JJ Lin.
On July 17, Yang surprised fans by announcing that she will be returning to the show’s breakout battle in a bid to redeem herself.
