Cloud seeding operations at Bukit Merah Dam on July 29

IPOH: Cloud seeding operations will be carried out at the Bukit Merah Dam on July 29, said state executive council member Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun.

The State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman said the operations will be conducted in stages over three consecutive days.

He said that the Malaysian Meteorological Department has set the date for the operations.

"The operation is crucial not only for domestic water supply but also for irrigating the padi fields in Kerian district, which have been affected by the low water levels in Bukit Merah Dam due to the hot weather,” he told reporters at the Ziarah Kasih Tani programme here on Friday (July 19).

The media previously reported that the water level at Bukit Merah Dam, which is essential for both domestic and agricultural use, particularly padi fields in Kerian and industrial use in Taiping, is declining because of the hot weather.

The Irrigation and Drainage Department has temporarily stopped releasing water for agricultural use because the water level in Bukit Merah Dam has dropped to 6,096 metres.- Bernama
