Over RM13mil worth of fines issued against water polluters, says Environs Ministry


KUALA LUMPUR: More than RM13mil worth of fines have been dished out for offences related to water pollution between 2020 and 2024, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry said a cumulative RM13,303,500 in fines were issued for 772 cases of water pollution during this period.

“Investigations have also been launched by the Department of Environment into 896 reports of river pollution between 2020 and 2024,” it said in a written reply dated Thursday (July 18).

The ministry was responding to a question by Salamiah Mohd Nor (PN-Temerloh) who asked about the number of river pollution cases between 2020 and 2024.

She also asked how many cases were charged.
