MALAYSIANS from all walks of life can take part in the celebrations held in conjunction with the installation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who chairs the Special Committee for the King’s Installation Events, said that some of the events in conjunction with the ceremony will be open to the public.
A Yasin recital and doa selamat at Masjid Negara held on Thursday, and the special Friday sermon and prayers held at the same location yesterday, were both open to the public.
“The Raja Kita exhibition at Muzium Negara, which will be held on July 25, will also be open to the rakyat,” Fahmi said.
“The exhibition is quite special and unique as there will be certain memorabilia and items from His Majesty’s personal collection.
“I was informed that there will also be a bicycle owned by the King,” he said during a recent interview with The Star.
Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, is also scheduled to visit the Orang Asli Hospital in Gombak on July 23.
According to Fahmi, the Information Department will be hosting viewing parties at 222 parliamentary constituencies today for the live broadcast of the installation ceremony of Sultan Ibrahim.
“It will start from 9am until the ceremony ends,” he explained, adding that it will be done in collaboration with the Madani Community volunteer group and will include other side events.
“We want all Malaysians to come together and celebrate this momentous event, showcasing the uniqueness of the constitutional monarchy institution, allowing people from all segments of society to appreciate this special event that is found only in Malaysia,” he said.
Grand Chamberlain of Istana Negara Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini said that Their Majesties have closely monitored many aspects of the arrangements and ceremonial protocols as they wanted everything to be flawless.
“Take the invitation cards, for instance. They incorporated Tiffany Blue, Their Majesties’ favourite colour.
“The installation souvenirs and medals have all been meticulously reviewed by the royal couple.
“In my opinion, Their Majesties are truly hands-on, knowing every detail,” he said when appearing as a guest on the Ruang Bicara programme on Bernama TV recently.
Sultan Ibrahim took the oath and signed the instrument of office as the 17th King of Malaysia on Jan 31.
