PETALING JAYA: Britain's head of state, King Charles III, has extended congratulations to Sultan Ibrahim as the newly installed King of Malaysia.
King Charles said that he looked forward to working with Sultan Ibrahim to strengthen the bond and deepen close cooperation between the two nations.
"I write to congratulate you most warmly on your Coronation as the King of Malaysia.
"As Commonwealth partners, the United Kingdom and Malaysia share common values and longstanding links in areas such as education, trade, technology and defence," he said in a statement posted on the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur's official Facebook account on Saturday (July 20).
King Charles also expressed hope that the installation of Sultan Ibrahim would see more cooperation between the two countries.
"I hope we can continue to build on all that unites us in the years ahead, including our shared commitment to tackle climate change and safeguard the natural environment for future generations," he said.
Earlier on Saturday, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim was sworn in as the 17th King of Malaysia at a ceremony steeped in tradition at Istana Negara.
His Majesty was accompanied by Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia.
Approximately 700 guests, including Malay rulers, governors and foreign dignitaries and leaders attended the ceremony, which was streamed live on national television.
