Global IT outage: Crowds still an issue at KLIA2

KUALA LUMPUR: The situation at Terminal 2 of the KL International Airport (KLIA2) remains crowded with long lines at some counters, a day after the Crowdstrike global outage.

According to videos posted on TikTok early on Saturday (July 20) morning, it seemed that all flights had been delayed.

The outage has also caused some airline operators to resort to manual check-ins.

"Whoever has a flight from Terminal 2, please come extra early because there are crowds due to the chaotic system," said @syahzkmustaza on X.

Also on X, @AzieraAzir said the check-in kiosk at Terminal 2 was still not operational as of 5am on Saturday (July 20).

On Friday (July 19), companies across several industries were hit by a global outage tied to Microsoft's Azure platform and a software issue at the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.

The issue impacted computers running the Windows operating system and CrowdStrike software. CrowdStrike said it was working with impacted customers and had deployed a fix for the issue, which stemmed from an update it issued for Windows users.

While CrowdStrike has released a fix for the issue, it does require what the industry calls a "fingers on keyboards" solution, which means technicians will have to physically update the affected computers.

As CrowdStrike has over 24,000 customers around the world, tech researchers have said that the fix would be incredibly time-consuming and would take organisations days to do at scale.
