Man jailed for using fake MyKad for 20 years


KOTA KINABALU: A man who has been walking around with a fake identity card for 20 years will spend the next two years behind bars.Razlan Yusuf pleaded guilty to using the MyKad which is registered under another person’s name.

Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles ordered the 49-year-old, who holds an Indonesian passport, to serve the two-year jail sentence from the date of his arrest on July 16.

According to the facts of the case, Razlan went to the National Registration Department (NRD) at the Urban Transformation Centre here on July 16 to verify some documents, including the identity card.

He was detained at 3pm on suspicion of having a fake identity card bearing 771127-12-5563 which was registered under the name of one Mohd Jefri bin Mohd Taib.

Further inspection showed that Razlan’s identity card was not in the records.

Meanwhile, Sabah NRD prosecuting officer Mohd Naser Mohd Nadzeri requested the court to impose an appropriate sentence.

He said Razlan had used the fake identity card for 20 years, claiming to have obtained it in 2004 through a middleman for RM300.
