PETALING JAYA: Despite registration being open in June, some are still trying to comprehend the national digital identification system, both online and at MyDigital ID kiosks.
While registration has surpassed 465,000 as of July 10, many people still want to know more – how to use the system and how to register for it.
A private sector worker, Thalia James, 32, said she was not aware that the system is now available for public registration.
“I have yet to come across any posters, either online or physically, at the public offices recommending that we register.
“It is not like the Central Database Hub (Padu), which was well publicised. From there, I was able to get more information about the system,” she said.
She said she would consider registering once there was more information available.
“Until and unless I know what it is all about, I will not be registering. The government needs to promote it more if they want the public to sign up,” she added.
A new form of digital identification and verification called MyDigital ID is set to bring benefits to both the public and private sectors.
This innovative system will confirm users’ identities during online transactions, providing a secure and reliable method of authentication.
Civil servant Nazri Shahib, 38, said he had difficulties signing up for the MyDigital ID system.
“At the kiosk, a tablet informed me that my details were already associated with an account upon registration.
“There was a pop-up saying, ‘Error! Registration was not successful. Your certificate may still be active; please ensure you have cancelled the certificate at the kiosk first and try again.’
“How do I cancel something that I do not have access to?” he said, adding that he plans to call the hotline to resolve the matter.
Most of the MyDigital ID kiosks are available at selected Tealive branches and the National Registration Department.
The location of the kiosks can be found online at the official MyDigital ID website.
Signing up for MyDigital ID was a complicated experience, according to Fatma Khalid, 31.
The private sector employee said she faced several unsuccessful attempts.
“I tried applying through the online option and was met with an ‘identification unsuccessful’ notice. After calling the helpline, I was told to register physically at the kiosk. I prefer to register online because the idea is to have a seamless and easier authentication process,” she added.
On Nov 21, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an immediate allocation of RM80mil to Mimos Bhd, a research and development agency, to accelerate the implementation of digital IDs, empower digital transformation, and develop digital initiatives involving government dealings.
He said the digital ID was also an initial step towards allocating targeted subsidies and other facilities by government departments and the private sector.
The public can obtain more information through email at info@digital-id.my or by calling the helpline at 03-8687 2772.
