KOTA KINABALU: Marine police personnel seized illicit cigarettes from a supposedly vacant house in the northern Kota Belud district.

Acting on a tip-off, they stormed a house located at Kampung Tempasuk 1 at about 3.30pm on Friday (July 19).

Kota Kinabalu Marine Operations Base Commanding Officer Asst Supt Roslee Abd Rahman said upon checking they discovered boxes containing 60,000 cigarette sticks hidden in the house.

He said the items were worth some RM72,000.

“The front door of the house was unlocked when we raided the place,” he said when contacted on Saturday (July 20).

“We have seized the cigarettes and brought them to the marine police office before handing them over to the Customs Department,” he added.

ASP Roslee said an investigation will be carried out under the Customs Act 1967.
