'Good Samaritan' flees after failed robbery attempt in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A woman went through a terrifying moment when a man, whom she thought was a Good Samaritan, strangled her and tried to flee with her belongings.

The 32-year-old victim said she was about to enter her car which was parked at Jalan Pelabuhan in Tawau, when the stranger approached her at about 10am claiming she had a flat tire.

“But when he was closer to the victim, the suspect proceeded to choke her in the car, attempting to steal her valuables.

“His attempt was however unsuccessful and he fled the scene,” said Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin.

The incident was caught on camera by a bystander and the woman can be seen struggling with the robber and pressing her car horn.

Jasmin said the commotion attracted public attention.

“Investigations are ongoing to track down the suspect, and the case is being investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery,” ACP Jasmin said.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the investigating officer, Inspector Izzul Adha Mohd Razali, at 019-7705577.
