Cops arrest two women in viral video assault case

KOTA KINABALU: Police identify jealousy as the motive behind an assault by two women seen in a viral video.

Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton (pic) said two individuals connected to the video have been arrested, one being the alleged victim, while the other was one of the assailants.

“The first arrest was of an 18-year-old woman, believed to be one of the assailants.

“The second arrest was of a 25-year-old woman, who is suspected to be the victim. She does not have valid identification documents,” he said in a statement on Sunday (July 21).

Authorities are still searching for the remaining suspect, seen in the video.

Supt Sammy indicated that the initial investigation suggests the 25-year-old woman was involved in an affair with the husband of the suspect, who is still at large.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt, Section 506 of the Penal Code for making threats, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for lacking valid identification documents.

On Friday, a video went viral, showing the victim slapped several times, hair pulled, kicked and stomped on by the two other women.

Newton called on the public to report any information related to the viral video to the Penampang district police at 088-712222.
