Hundreds crowd police booth to settle discounted traffic summonses at National Month launch

CYBERJAYA: Police traffic summons payment counters offering discounts of up to 50 per cent at the Launch Ceremony of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang (HKHM) 2024 campaign here became one of the main attractions for visitors.

As of 1.30pm on Sunday (July 21), visitors were still queuing up to settle their traffic summonses despite the scorching heat.

This offer, running from 9am to 4.30pm, caught the attention of businessman S. Selvarajah, 72, who came to pay traffic summonses on behalf of a relative.

"It is very convenient that the government organises events with such a facility, allowing me to pay the summonses easily even though the queue was very long,” he told Bernama.

Online trader Nursyikin Samad, 45, who had been in line since 8.30am to take advantage of the discounts, said the offer made it easy for her to settle her summonses.

"This offer is indeed good, but the waiting time in line was quite long, and in this hot weather, it was rather difficult for me to stand for a long time," said Nursyikin, who lives in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, businessman Cheng Zhe Tiong, 34, who also queued up to pay his summonses, opined that police should implement this initiative more frequently in every district or state.

"Sometimes our work schedules are unpredictable, and going to the appropriate place to pay can be difficult and we forget, so if the police can do this more often, it would be better for busy people like me,” he said.

The Launch Ceremony of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2024, which is carnival-themed, is scheduled to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at 3pm and serves as a platform to enhance the spirit of nationalism and patriotism.

This event marks the countdown to the 2024 National Day celebration on Aug 31 in Putrajaya and the Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16 in Sabah.
