IPOH: The safety policy for places of worship in limestone caves in Kinta District will be standardised after a pilot project, says Gopeng MP Tan Kar Hing.

Tan, who is a committee member of the Perak Cave and Limestone Area Development Special Committee, said there are 13 such temples. He added that a pilot project is being carried out at the Ju Bao Yan Thai Buddhist temple in Simpang Pulai.

“The 13 temples built on government land, in order to be gazetted, need to fulfil four requirements. The four steps are for a surveyor to provide a plan, safety report, have safety officers and insurance providers,” he told reporters after attending a course for safety officers for places of worship at limestone caves held at a hotel here yesterday.

Tan said prior to this, there was no policy on development at limestone caves.
