Fifth suspect in Albertine's abduction remanded until July 29


JOHOR BARU: The man who was arrested in the same Batang Kali budget hotel room as six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui has been remanded until Monday (July 29).

The 31-year-old suspect was brought to the Court Complex here for remand proceedings in an unmarked police vehicle at around 3pm on Tuesday (July 23).

He was seen wearing a T-shirt from the Bon Odori Japanese festival at Eco Galleria in Iskandar Puteri, where the victim was abducted on Saturday (July 20).

Magistrate Muhammad Fitri Mokhtar then granted police a remand order against the suspect until Monday.

Earlier, four suspects, including two women, were brought to the court complex for a remand order to be issued.

Police arrested the suspects, aged between 28 and 55, in Iskandar Puteri and Johor Baru on Monday (July 22) to assist with the investigation.

Magistrate Suhaili Sapun granted a four-day remand order against the four suspects until Friday (July 26).

It was reported earlier that police raided the budget hotel at 4.30am and rescued Albertine.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar told a press conference late Tuesday morning that the motive for kidnapping the child was still being ascertained.
