HONG Kong superstar Aaron Kwok is facing a decline in popularity if poor ticket sales for his concerts in August are anything to go by, Sin Chew Daily reported.
The 58-year-old, who will be embarking on his Iconic World Tour 2024 in a few weeks, has had unsold tickets for 11 out of 13 shows at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
Once hailed as one of the “Four Heavenly Kings of Cantopop”, Kwok’s iconic dance moves, inspired by Michael Jackson, were once a major draw.
However, the current lacklustre ticket sales have sparked speculation about his waning star power.
Many Internet users believe that people were unwilling to spend on concert tickets due to concerns over an anticipated global economic downturn.
Others who don’t share this view, say that Sammi Cheng, another superstar in Hong Kong, managed to sell out tickets to all 13 of her concerts this month at the same venue.
> A sudden and intense storm caused widespread damage to durian orchards in Tangkak, Johor. The 15-minute tempest uprooted hundreds of Musang King trees, leaving farmers devastated, China Press reported.
A farmer told the paper he felt helpless at the sight of his trees being uprooted while others said that they have never experienced such a severe storm in the past six decades.
Xu Wen Zhi, lost 200 trees on his 6.5ha orchard.
Despite preventative measures like tying down trees, the powerful winds that swept along the Kampung Teratai-Bukit Gambit road proved too strong.
