SLIM RIVER: The police have recovered a set of car keys believed to be linked to the murder of Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah while searching for evidence in Sungai Trolak, Kampung Batu 4, here.

The keys were recovered by a diver at 11.20am yesterday about 50m from a small bridge, believed to be the location where the victim’s belongings were discarded.

Earlier, three vehicles, including two four-wheel drives, arrived at the village to continue the search for evidence.

It was postponed from last Friday due to strong currents and murky water after heavy rain.

A total of five divers from the police’s sub-aquatic forensic investigation unit searched within a 300m radius from the bridge.

About an hour later, the unit recovered another crucial piece of evidence – a purse believed to belong to Nur Farah Kartini – in the river.

It was found at 12.20pm about 5m from the spot where the car keys were found.

When reporters asked whether the former Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris student’s identification card was found inside the purse, the diver confirmed, “Yes,” Bernama reported.

The diving team concluded the search operation at around 1pm.

Items belonging to the 25-year-old victim, including a mobile phone charger, were among those being sought.

Meanwhile, the remand order on the suspect has been extended for seven days until July 29.

It was issued by judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohammed Redza following an application by the police at the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Kubu Baru.

The police had obtained an order to remand the suspect for seven days last week for an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and the order expired yesterday.

The suspect, who was in an orange lock-up uniform and handcuffs, arrived at the court at 9.04am in a police car.

Nur Farah Kartini was reported missing on July 10 before her body was found in an oil palm plantation in Kampung Sri Kledang, Hulu Selangor, at about 6pm on July 15.

Following that, a 26-year-old policeman was arrested.
