A happily ever after in the works for Eugenie Liu?


SPECULATION is rife that Taiwanese actress Eugenie Liu is set to marry musician Jimmy Hung – the son of martial arts legend Sammo Hung – with whom she has dated for seven years, reported Sin Chew Daily.

In the past, Liu, 34, postponed her nuptials with Jimmy for fear that she would inadvertently drag him into her family’s financial woes.

Once harbouring a dream of becoming a sports journalist, Liu was forced to join the entertainment industry right after university to support her family after they suffered a series of unfortunate events that plunged them into debt.

It started with her father’s bankruptcy, followed by her mother getting cancer, her grandfather passing away and her grandmother needing funds for surgery.

As an actress, Liu worked tirelessly and her perseverance paid off.

She received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2023 for her performance in the film Old Fox.

Recently, Mirror Media reported that Liu will unlikely be extending her contract with her current acting agency, which sparked rumours that she intends to settle down soon.

When contacted, Liu’s manager said the actress is still in talks with the agency.

However, the manager denied that Liu and Jimmy have plans to get married soon.

> Japanese voice actress Noriko Ohara, best known for voicing Nobita in the beloved Doraemon series, passed away earlier this month, reported China Press.

Ohara’s agency announced that the actress lost her battle to an unnamed illness and died on July 12. She was 88.

Ohara first played Nobita’s mother in the 1973 Doraemon series on Nippon Television before voicing Nobita in the 1979 TV Asahi version for the next 26 years.Other notable characters she voiced included Conan in Future Boy Conan and Doronjo, a female villain in Yatterman.

Her funeral was only attended by close relatives.

She is survived by her husband and a son.
