INSPIRED by the movie Iron Man, a factory worker in Hubei, China, attempted to remove shrapnel from his body using a magnet only to cause him further injury, Sin Chew Daily reported.

On June 23, a machine at his workplace exploded, causing shrapnel to lodge in his thigh.

Recalling a scene where Iron Man’s lead character Tony Stark used an electromagnet to stop shrapnel from entering his heart, the worker told a colleague to bring him a powerful magnet.

He then attempted to use the magnet to pull the shrapnel out but stopped after experiencing excruciating pain.

The man was sent to the Wuhan City Puren Hospital, where doctors removed all five pieces of shrapnel from his thigh.

> Singaporean singer Stefanie Sun revealed that she had been battling a long bout of illness after attending a music festival in China, China Press reported.

The 46-year-old uploaded an eight-minute video on her birthday on July 23, explaining that she had been sick for more than a month.

Just as she arrived at her hotel after performing in Fuzhou city, she began shivering uncontrollably for over two hours.

After returning home to Singapore the next day, her symptoms did not abate, and she had to even seek help at a hospital’s accident and emergency department.

It took her over a month, after being prescribed both western and Chinese medicine, to recover.

During the period, Sun, who will be embarking on a tour in 2025, was forced to cancel her rehearsals due to her illness.

“I was down in the dumps. It felt as if all my hard work was for naught,” she said.

Even so, Sun said she accepted that life came with its ups and downs.

> Hong Kong singer Jacky Cheung, who was forced to cancel several of his shows after falling ill, apologised for his hoarse voice during a recent performance, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The 63-year-old, who was doing his 153rd show for his Jacky Cheung 60+ Concert Tour, gave concertgoers in Hangzhou, China, a 90-degree bow as a form of apology.

Cheung explained that he hardly gets a break during a show, and it is very taxing on his body whenever he has a sore throat.

“I am glad that I managed to endure up to this moment. Today, there is a small issue with my voice.

“It has affected my ability to concentrate. Sometimes, when I am deep in thought on how to sing, I forget my dance moves,” he said.
