Johor cops bust burglars who hit schools, temple and Kulai MP's office

KULAI: Police have arrested three local men for alleged involvement in thefts at an Islamic school, a Chinese temple and the MP's office here.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tan Seng Lee said the suspects were detained in raids at four different locations here and in Johor Baru between 3.30am and 3pm on Saturday (July 20).

“We have solved seven cases of breaks-in involving schools, and one case each involving a temple and the Kulai MP's office," he said in a statement on Friday (July 26).

Supt Tan said police received a report from a Taman Kota Kulai school's senior assistant on July 8 regarding a break-in.

He said the Kulai MP’s assistant then lodged a report on a break-in at the office on July 9.

“Several electrical items and laptops were missing from the school while mobile phones and tablets were stolen from the MP’s office," he added.

He said police have seized the stolen items, a car and tools believed to be used by the suspects for their break-ins.

The authorities are also looking for a fourth suspect to help in the investigation.

Supt Tan said the three suspects, who have criminal records, all tested positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for trespass or housebreaking.

In a separate case, a local man armed with a knife was arrested at 10.30pm on July 19 for trespassing at a school.

Supt Tan said the 21-year-old suspect tested negative for drugs and the case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.
