Sandakan police launch manhunt for three men in murder probe

KOTA KINABALU: Police have launched a manhunt for three male suspects to facilitate the investigation into the discovery of a body at a palm oil plantation on Jalan Sungai Memanjang in Sandakan, on Thursday (July 25).

Acting Sandakan OCPD Supt Ramasamy Kuppan said the three wanted men were identified as Mohd Jasmin Rusman a.k.a Achok, Mohamad Zulfaizzie Hanafie Mohd Firdaus, both aged 24; and one only known as Komeng, in his 20s.

“Police are seeking these three men to facilitate the investigation into a murder case of a man who was found nearby a burnt four-wheel drive vehicle in Kampung Sungai Memanjang on July 25 at around 11am.

“We are also trying to determine whether the victim is related to the missing person report filed last Sunday (July 21),” he told reporters at a press conference at the Sandakan police headquarters, on Friday (July 26).

Supt Ramasamy said a post mortem would be conducted tomorrow by the forensic team from Kota Kinabalu and family members have also been called to identify the body.

“Only then will we know the victim’s identity,” he said.

It is believed that the victim is 35-year-old Naufal Abdul Rashid, son of a well-known local restaurant owner, who has been reported missing since July 21.

He said that they have picked up a woman to assist in the investigation, adding that the main suspect in the case has also been identified.

“Initial investigation revealed that revenge was the motive behind the murder,” he said.
