Cops arrest couple after failed attempt to run away in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a couple after running away from being inspected in Taman Impian Emas, Skudai, here.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said the incident occurred at 11.20pm on July 24, during a routine crime prevention patrol in the area when they saw a car driven in a suspicious condition.

“The car was driven by a 27-year-old man and his 20-year-old girlfriend; the woman had also brought her child.

“The driver had decided to speed off from being inspected and had gone through a few areas in Johor Baru before finally being caught at Taman Impian Emas,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (July 27).

The incident was caught in a video that was posted on X (formerly Twitter).

He added that the couple had run away as they were under the influence of drugs; both were tested positive for methamphetamine.

“There were six MPVs involved in the chase, and this is not a kidnapping case,” he said, adding that no injuries were recorded in the case.

The case is investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant.

Earlier, a 17-second video was posted on X by a user under the name @update11111 showing six police MPVs chasing a car.
