Raids uncover counterfeit goods in Kuala Lumpur business complex

KUALA LUMPUR: Raids led by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) discovered counterfeit goods on seven premises.

In a statement on Sunday (July 27), Kuala Lumpur KPDN chief enforcement officer Nurul Syarina Md Anuar said that the raids were conducted on July 25 at a business complex in Lorong Haji Taib after a two-week surveillance.

A shop and six storerooms were raided then, and 2,070 pairs of counterfeit branded slippers were seized.

“Based on the information gathered, the slippers were obtained overseas, and the six storerooms were used to store them before they were sold.

“The business owner operated online and received stock from outside the Klang Valley.

“This premises has been operated by the same owner for three years, and this is the second raid performed there. The owner, a man in his forties, has been arrested for further investigations,” she said.

According to KPDN statistics, eight people have been arrested for intellectual property offences under Ops Jeriji 5.0 this year, and 46,900 items have been seized.
