Deadly fire in Ampang under police probe


AMPANG: The police are investigating the deadly fire at an apartment in Taman Lembah Maju, Pandan Indah, that killed a woman and injured a man.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the police were investigating whether there was any criminal element to the incident.

"We received the distress call at 9.44pm on Saturday (July 27), stating that an apartment unit in Taman Lembah Maju was on fire.

"A police patrol team was dispatched to the scene to conduct initial action while the Fire and Rescue Department were deployed to put out the fire," he said when contacted on Sunday (July 28).

Once the fire was put out, it was discovered that a 28-year-old woman had died at the scene while a 37-year-old man suffered burns on his right hand and other injuries on his face and legs, he said.

"He was sent to Ampang Hospital for treatment.

"Bomba is still investigating the cause of the fire," he said.

Asked whether the deceased had any relationship problems, ACP Azam said it was still under investigation.

"We are investigating the case under Section 435 of the Penal Code for arson and sudden death report.

It was previously reported that a fire at an apartment in Taman Lembah Maju, Pandan Indah, led to the death of a woman and injured a man.

The woman, who was killed, suffered 80% burns on her body.
