Johor marine cops, Customs foil bid to smuggle in untaxed pork

PASIR GUDANG: Police have foiled an attempt to smuggle untaxed frozen pork into the country, seizing items worth more than RM300,000 during a raid at Teluk Kabong here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the operation was conducted by the Johor Region 2 Marine Police and the Pengerang Customs Enforcement Division at an illegal jetty at 6.30am on Tuesday (July 30).

“The operation targeted frozen pork smuggling.

"During the raid, we apprehended two local men, both aged 55, and seized a total of 197 boxes containing untaxed frozen pork from a foreign country.

“The confiscated items include the frozen pork, a blue fibreglass boat, a 75hp boat engine and a lorry, worth RM337,750 in total,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated by the Customs Department under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for possession, storage, or concealment of untaxed goods.

Supt Sohaimi added that the police are committed to combat smuggling activities and warned those involved to stop activities that caused significant losses to the nation.

“We would also like to urge the public to continue providing information related to such activities to ensure security and public order are maintained,” he added.
