KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia-China 50th Anniversary Photo Exhibition from Aug 5-18 promises to be a captivating event, celebrating the rich cultural and historical ties between these two nations.

The exhibition, to be held in Mid Valley Megamall here, will highlight the deep-rooted friendship and collaboration through a diverse array of photographs captured throughout 50 years.

Supporting this effort is the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, with AirAsia as the official partner, and Mid Valley Megamall as the venue partner. The event is jointly organised by Star Media Group and Sin Chew Daily.

The exhibition will feature some 400 photographs – both in black and white and colour – that will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to witness the shared heritage and ongoing cooperation between Malaysia and China from collaborative initiatives to trade partnerships and mutual achievements.

The event will showcase the iconic image that captured the historic moment between then prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein and chairman Mao Zedong in May 1974, photographs of current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with President Xi Jinping, as well as the Xing Xing and Liang Liang pandas that have played an integral role in enhancing the cultural exchange between Malaysia and China.

Also to be featured are the official sporting matches and newspaper cuttings.

The photographs will be curated and showcased according to themes, ranging from the pre-establishment era to cultural exchanges, educational and youth collaborations, and humanitarian efforts.

Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the shared history and aspirations of two nations at the photo exhibition.

It will take place from Aug 5-18, 10am to 10pm daily at Centre Court Concourse (ground floor) in Mid Valley Megamall. Admission is free.

In the same spirit, Star Media Group and Sin Chew Daily have produced a coffee table book called Blossoming and Fruiting: 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Malaysia and China, that will be given out to their partners.

The book – with UTAR as the education partner, AirAsia as the official partner, and IJM Corporation Bhd, Midea Scott & English Electronics Sdn Bhd, QL Resources Bhd as sponsors – will feature some 200 photographs across 270 pages, highlighting the enduring friendship and growing synergy between Malaysia and China.

The elegantly-bound hardcover will have four segments following the different phases of the two nations’ historical interactions – the Sowing Period (1974-1989), the Budding Period (1990-2004), the Flowering Period (2005-2012), and the Fruiting Period (2013 to the present).

The coffee table book will also be launched on Aug 5 together with the opening of the photo exhibition.

The photo exhibition and coffee table book are to commemorate the 50 years of bilateral relations between Malaysia and China.

In June 2024, Star Media Group had also published a 24-page supplement depicting stories of significant milestones and cultural exchanges that have defined the relationship between the two nations.

The Blossoming and Fruiting Coffee Table Book and Malaysia-China 50th Anniversary Photo Exhibition are jointly organised by Star Media Group and Sin Chew Daily, supported by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, with UTAR as the education partner, AirAsia as the official partner, Mid Valley Megamall as the venue partner.
