Angry hippo mum tramples zookeeper to death

A ZOOKEEPER in India died after being trampled by a hippopotamus while trying to move its baby, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Santosh Kumar Mahto Jharkhand, 54, was apparently trying to move a newborn calf from an enclosure to feed it.

However, the mother became agitated and attacked the man, which left him severely injured.

He was rushed to the hospital but died of his injuries after being treated for a few days.

Zoo director Jabber Singh announced that the victim’s families will be provided with financial assistance up to 2.4 million rupees (RM132,000).

Jeevitha Muniandy, a student at University Malaysia Kelantan, and Jeevasri Parthiban, who is studying at Mahsa University, were the lucky recipients.
