SEREMBAN: The parents of Nour Rania Asyifaa Yuseri or Baby Syifaa want the police to charge her former babysitter with negligence for causing her death.
This comes after the Coroner's Court found that the toddler's death was due to the babysitter leaving the victim unsupervised in a room for two hours.
The victim's father Yuseri Yussof when met outside the court said he had already expected the outcome of the inquest.
He now wants the police to act immediately as the incident took place almost two-and-a-half years ago.
"The babysitter should have been charged immediately after my daughter died.
"Since the court has delivered its judgment, we hope the police will arrest her today and if possible, charge her tomorrow," he said.
Earlier, the Coroner's Court here ruled that the toddler's death at a nursery in February 2022 was due to compression of the neck.
Coroner Datin Surita Budin said the victim died after her neck became entangled in a cloth cradle.
Yuseri said the court findings should serve as a lesson to those providing childcare services to be more responsible.
"My wife and I would discuss with our lawyer on the next course of action.
"We are also not ruling out filing a civil suit against the babysitter and the nursery operator," he said.
His wife Anida Idrus said she was happy with the findings of the inquest as not a day has passed without her thinking of Baby Syifaa.
"Leaving my child in a room unsupervised for two hours with the door closed is inhumane.
"She (the babysitter) was someone I trusted with my baby but due to her negligence, Baby Syifaa has left us forever," she said, adding that childcare centres need to be more professional when providing services as they are paid for this.
Anida said she had no choice but to leave Baby Syifaa at the centre as she had to go to work.
"It is a dilemma for working mothers like me as we have to leave our babies in the care of others.
"I am just happy with today’s ruling as we finally got closure. We now want action to be taken against the person responsible for my baby's death," she said.
T. Gaithri, who kept a watching brief for the family, said the babysitter should be charged under Section 31(1) of the Child Act for negligence.
"The Coroner ruled that the babysitter was negligent and as such, she should be charged under the Child Act," she added.
