KUALA LUMPUR: Three individuals including a Datuk who is a former officer at a wholly-owned subsidiary of a government agency have been remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly accepting bribes involving a housing project amounting to almost RM110mil.
MACC said a five-day remand order from July 30 until Aug 3 has been issued on all three men aged between 40 and 60.
"Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Burhanuddin issued the order after an application was made by MACC at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (July 30).
"According to sources, the three suspects along with another individual are believed to have received bribes from a construction company in return for conspiring to sign an additional development agreement (SDA) involving a housing project in Kuantan, Pahang, without the approval of the Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) board of directors.
"The signed agreement is believed to contain one-sided clauses that caused SPNB to bear losses reaching tens of millions of ringgit," it said in a statement on Wednesday (July 31).
All the suspects were arrested when they appeared at the MACC headquarters around 6.30pm on Monday (July 29), but one was released on MACC bail after their statements were recorded.
MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed the arrest when contacted.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 for corruption.
