Lorry driver dies in hospital after hitting a cargo container

KLUANG: A cargo container driver died while receiving treatment at the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital near here after being involved in an accident with another lorry.

The incident happened at KM62.4 along the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound on Tuesday (July 30) at about 3am.

OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said police received a call from the other lorry driver who was involved in the incident later on the same day.

“Initial investigations showed both drivers were travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Baru when the incident took place," he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 31).

ACP Bahrin said K. Paramasivam, 42, who was driving in front of the victim had slowed down the vehicle due to heavy traffic along the stretch.

He said the victim, identified as Mohd Faizal Khalid, 41, who was trailing behind, failed to slow down before hitting the rear part of the lorry.

“The victim who suffered serious head and bodily injuries died at the hospital later that evening," said ACP Bahrin.

He said the case will be investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987.
