JOHOR BARU: More than 100 foreigners were arrested in Kulai and Kota Tinggi districts from July 28 until July 30.
Johor Immigration Department director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the foreigners were found working without permits, did not possess valid travel documents and had overstayed in Malaysia.
“Some 791 individuals including locals and foreigners were inspected during the operation, with 110 foreigners arrested,” he said in a statement.
The Ops Bersama operation involved the Johor Immigration Department, Kulai Police District Headquarters, Kota Tinggi District office, Road Transport Department, National Registration Department, Kulai Municipal Council, Manpower Department and Tourism, Art and Culture Ministry.
Mohd Rusdi said the foreigners arrested were from Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Myanmar, Cambodia, India and Nepal.
He said those arrested in the joint operation were aged between 17 and 65.
“We also arrested a 31-year-old local man believed to be a human resources manager with a factory in Kulai,’’ added Mohd Rusdi.
He said the illegal foreign workers committed offences under the Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).
Mohd Rusdi said the Immigration Department would continue to work closely with other enforcement agencies to eradicate the influx of illegal immigrants in Johor.
Mohd Rusdi said that the Johor Immigration Department will not compromise and will take stern action against employers and business owners for employing illegal foreign workers.
