KUALA LUMPUR: An investigation is being carried out on a member of a company’s board of directors for allegedly using a fake “Datuk Seri” title.
Astro Awani reported on Wednesday (July 31) that police have confirmed that they are conducting an investigation against the individual after a police report was filed on July 26.
Quoting Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, it said the investigation into the case was carried out by the Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department.
"I confirm that I have received the report about this case and am recording statements from several witnesses.
"The investigation is still ongoing and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code as well as Section 4(1) of the Pahang Emblems, Titles and Awards (Prevention of Improper Use) Enactment 2017.
It was earlier reported by Astro Awani that a police report had been made against an individual for allegedly using a fake "Datuk Seri" title from Pahang.
It said that a review found that the individual involved has not yet been conferred the title by the Sultan of Pahang.
Astro Awani said a source from Istana Pahang said that if the individual was not awarded the title then it was a serious matter and an investigation needed to be carried out.
"We ask all parties to heed the order of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and those who receive the titles to protect the name of the royal institution and country," the source said.
