Sister of Ulu Tiram police station attacker to undergo treatment for depression

JOHOR BARU: The Sessions Court here has ordered one of the five family members of the man who attacked the Ulu Tiram police station to seek medical treatment after showing signs of depression.

Sessions Judge Rasidah Roslee made the decision after the family's lawyer Faizal Rahman requested that Mariah Radin Imran, 19, to be refer to hospital for treatment.

He told the court that Mariah showed signs of depression when he met her while being in detention at Simpang Renggam prison on June 30.

“I am appealing to the court to refer Mariah to the hospital and seek further treatment immediately following signs of depression that were detected when we met," he said during the re-mention of the case here on Wednesday (July 31).

Deputy Public Prosecutor Fazeedah Faik had no objection to the matter and agreed that the Prison Department should take appropriate action for Mariah.

She also requested the court to set a new mention date as the terrorism expert's report has not yet been completed.

Rasidah then ordered the accused to seek hospital treatment immediately and without fail.

She also set Sept 2 as the date for re-mention of the case in order to obtain a terrorism expert's report before transferring the case to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
