Selangor sets the bar for school funding

The Indian community is hopeful that other state governments will follow Selangor’s example of providing annual allocation to Tamil schools, according to Malaysia Nanban.

Funds designated for students’ programmes and activities are distributed directly to the parent- teacher associations.

“This can help the schools organise workshops, special Bahasa Melayu and English classes as well as other beneficial programmes for the students,” the daily quoted Tamil educators, parents and students as saying.

> The daily also reported that a man from Tamil Nadu, India, was stabbed to death by his lover’s brothers, who objected to the relationship.

Mohamad Aasik, 25, who worked at a briyani shop in Tharmapuri, was attacked by four men, who stabbed him several times before running away.

The victim died on the spot.

Police, with help from street surveillance cameras and a tracking dog, tracked down the assailants, who turned out to be a pair of twin brothers of the victim’s girlfriend and their friends.

The four suspects have been arrested.
