Two-year-old girl dies after falling from 16th floor of JB apartment block

JOHOR BARU: A two-year-old girl died after falling eight storeys from the 16th floor of an apartment located in Taman Daya here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said a police report about the incident was lodged at around 9.16pm on Tuesday (July 30) night.

“Early investigations found the incident had occurred on the same day at around 8.50pm. The suspects, who are a married couple, aged 56 and 78 years old, have close family ties to the toddler.

“Prior to the incident, the victim, together with her family, had just carried out activities at the apartment’s swimming pool area before returning to their unit, which is located at level 16,” he said in a statement here on Thursday (August 1).

ACP Raub added the two suspects brought the victim back to the unit while her mother together with other family members went to the laundry centre located at level seven of the apartment.

“While inside their home, the two suspects left the victim alone in the living room area while they went to carry out their prayers.

“After they were done with their prayers, they found the victim was not inside the house and a frantic search led them to find the victim who had fallen to level eight,” he said.

ACP Raub also said that the victim had climbed out from an open window at one of the bedrooms, which did not have any grille installed.

He added the victim suffered serious head injury due to the impact and died at the scene and her body has been sent to Sultan Ismail Hospital for a post mortem.

ACP Raub said the case was being investigated under Section 31(1)(A) of the Child Act 2001 as there were signs of child negligence.

He urged those with information regarding the matter to contact Johor Baru South police hotline at 07-218 2323.
