Man remanded five days for allegedly assaulting girlfriend in PD

PORT DICKSON: A 27-year-old man has been remanded by the Magistrate's Court here for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

District police chief Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said the suspect was arrested just before midnight on Thursday (Aug 1) at Bandar Sunggala in Telok Kemang and his remand will end on Aug 5.

He said a social media post of a photograph went viral on Aug 1, where an individual claimed that the suspect had assaulted his sister.

"The victim had also lodged a report, claiming that the assault took place around 9pm on July 28 at Pasir Panjang following an argument," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 2).

Supt Aidi Sham said the suspect had also threatened the victim's younger brother.

He said the suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine.

"Background checks revealed that the suspect has three previous drug-related cases," he said.

The suspect is also being probed for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the same legislation which provides a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
