Nenggiri polls: Two helicopters to be used to transport ballots for counting

GUA MUSANG: Two helicopters will be used for the smooth tallying of votes in the Nenggiri by-election.

Nenggiri by-election returning officer Nik Raisnan Daud said the state constituency covers a wide area which includes five Orang Asli posts located far from the vote-tallying centre at Dewan Perdana, Perdana Complex.

"We will use the two helicopters to reach Pos Goh and Pos Simpoh because Pos Goh is 116km from Gua Musang, and Pos Simpoh is 100km away.

"If we were to use four-wheel drive vehicles, it will take six hours," he said after inspecting preparations at the nomination centre in the Dewan Perdana here on Friday (Aug 2).

The Election Commission has set on Saturday (Aug 3) as nomination day and polling is on Aug 17.

There will not be an early voting day on Aug 13 as all 14 voters involved have chosen to vote by post instead.

The by-election was held after the seat was declared vacant by Kelantan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah on June 19 when incumbent Mohd Azizi Abu Naim was stripped of his party membership by Bersatu on June 13.

On preparations for nomination day, Nik Raisnan said things were proceeding smoothly and a simulation for the nomination process was also held on Friday.

"There will be 424 Election Commission (EC) personnel on duty tomorrow," he said.

He also reminded candidates that they can only bring 30 supporters each to the nomination centre.

"Other supporters are only allowed up to 50m from the compound," he said. – Bernama
