Penang state kicks off National Month celebration

BUTTERWORTH: Penang kicks off the state’s National Month celebration with 1,000 staff from various government departments and agencies at Seberang Perai Arena Convention Centre here.

In his speech, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said love, unity, tolerance, and cooperation are very important in ensuring harmony and progress in the state of Penang.

"I call on all parties to fly the Jalur Gemilang and the state flag of Penang proudly in offices, companies and residences, ladies and gentlemen, to fuel the spirit of the 67th anniversary of independence," he said on Friday (August 2).

Chow, accompanied by other state leaders, also handed out flags to representatives of 63 departments and agencies before flagging off a 25-vehicle convoy decorated with the Jalur Gemilang as a gimmick for the launch.

The Penang state-level National Day Parade will be held at Padang Kota Lama in George Town on Aug 31, while the state-level Malaysia Day Celebration will be held at Dewan Millenium, Kepala Batas, on Sept 16.
