KLUANG: Take care of your siblings no matter what - that is what the late Mahkota assemblyman Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain told her eldest son, Wan Mohd Hibatullah Abu Bakar when they last met.
The 40-year-old, who has three younger siblings, said that he had last met his mother on Friday (July 26).
“We met last Friday when we went for our afternoon tea. She told me that she was going to Johor Baru the next day as she had a party function with Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“She kept reminding me to take care of my siblings no matter what as I am the eldest and I should be strong for them,” he said when met at Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital here on Friday (Aug 2).
Sharifah Azizah has four children. They are Wan Mohd Hibatullah, Wan Mohd Hazwan, 39, Wan Mohd Hasbullah, 34, and Wan Harizahtul Nadia, 33.
Her husband, Abu Bakar Mohd Amin, passed away in 2005 due to lymphoma cancer at the age of 45.
Wan Mohd Hibatullah said his mother went to the event on Saturday (July 27) and was on her way home, when she started to vomit blood and was taken to the hospital where she was warded for three days.
“On Monday, at around 2.30pm, my mother was discharged but later at home, after Maghrib, my siblings called me saying she was having breathing difficulties.
“We then decided to take her back to the hospital,” he said, adding that he and his siblings were thankful for the help and prayers from everyone for Sharifah Azizah.
He added that on behalf of his mother and family, he would like to extend an apology to anyone if Sharifah Azizah had made any wrongdoings in her life.
Wan Mohd Hibatullah said that his mother was a stern person but always concerned about the people’s welfare regardless of their race and faith.
“She is the strongest person I ever met as she likes to help people. My mother will work hard to make sure that the person she helps would get whatever help they needed,” he added.
When asked about his mother’s cause of death, Wan Mohd Hibatullah said Sharifah Azizah suffered a health complication when her blood vessel at the neck area burst while being warded at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU).
“The medical team at the hospital did their best while taking care of my mother. Her heart stopped for about 10 minutes before beating again,” he said.
Sharifah Azizah’s body was brought to her house along Jalan Ahmad Khan here for people to pay their final respects and then to Masjid Jamek Kampung Tengah for prayers before burial at Kampung Tengah Islamic cemetery.
