Two cops hurt while arresting machete-wielding drug suspect

IPOH: Two policemen were injured while trying to arrest a machete-wielding man at Taman Melati Padang Tembak, Teluk Intan.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said a scuffle broke out during the arrest of the 43-year-old man suspected of possessing drugs at his home on Thursday (Aug 1).

"Insp Tie Ngie Sieng suffered a 4cm gash on his left arm while Detective Kpl Mohd Rasyidi Che Ross suffered a torn vein on his left wrist, which required surgery to reconnect the vessel.

"The suspect suffered external injuries and is being treated at Hospital Teluk Intan," Comm Azizi said in a statement on Friday (Aug 2).

He said police received a complaint from a family member of the suspect earlier about a drug abuse incident at their home.

"When the police arrived at about 5.40pm, the suspect was in the house and tried to stop us from checking the premises.

"The suspect went into a frenzy, breaking a window and a glass door.

"The policemen were forced to cut the lock of the door because the man refused to cooperate.

"While arresting the man, two of the policemen suffered injuries," he added.

Comm Azizi said the police found about 85g of ganja and 5.5g of methamphetamine in the house.

"The man also tested positive for methamphetamine.

"He has been arrested and would be investigated under Sections 39A(2), 39A(1) and 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Sections 186, 324 and 326 of the Penal Code," he added.
